energetic chapter in San Francisco –
the Presidio Chapter!
We have members
from 18 to 93 years of age, each of whom is
respected and valued as a member. Our
membership is comprised of women from all walks of life, women
whose input and interests are sought to complete
the mission of the DAR, while at the same time
doing creative, informative, patriotic,
educational, and historic work for the Society
and the community.
DAR has some
activity of interest for every woman, whether
you like working with period costumes, doing historic and
genealogical research, teaching young people about
our nation’s Revolutionary War history and
Constitution, re-creating colonial recipes to
share with the members, supporting our military
veterans, recognizing exceptional volunteers
in our community with DAR awards, promoting your
area of expertise in the Colonial era with other
members, or just sharing refreshments and making
friends with the members after chapter meetings
at our tea.
We are Today’s
DAR. Our chapter maintains an online chat room
created for members who want to share ideas and
talk with each other about genealogy, chapter
events and programs, and other ways to promote
the DAR. We meet on Saturdays to
provide the opportunity for those who work to
attend our meetings. We have “midnight”
genealogists who may not be able to share their
time during regular hours but are happy to chat
in the late night hours.
Many
of us volunteer
our time by
participating in parades, doing data entry for
the national organization, placing historic
markers, documenting cemetery burial sites,
supporting the DAR schools, and any number of
other avenues that contribute to the objectives
of the DAR. And many of us simply
attend meetings when we are able, and enjoy the
camaraderie which our chapter affords.
We would love to
welcome you as a new member of Presidio
Chapter. You will find ladies who are fun and
friendly and who love to laugh. At the same time
you will find support within the chapter as we
foster personal growth with shared knowledge
through our passion for education, patriotism,
and historic preservation.
