Genealogy & Classes

The Presidio Chapter is fortunate to be located not far from the Sutro Genealogy Library. The Sutro Genealogy Library has the largest genealogical collection west of Salt Lake City.  The library has basic resources for California and also has extensive resources for all other states.  Members will often meet there to team up for research. Visit the California State Library ~Sutro web site.

In the Presidio Chapter we are committed to teaching a strong foundation in researching your genealogy with an emphasis on the proper completion of applications and supplementals to the NSDAR. The Presidio Chapter offers classes that will teach these principles. These classes will acquaint you with tips and tricks on genealogy and will help answer questions about the completion of applications and supplementals. Listed below are a few of the topics that will be taught in the class.

  • Organizing your data

  • Google and effective searching

  • How to maneuver with tips and tricks – ancestry.com & footnote.com

  • Citing your sources

  • Land Records

  • Various types of evidence

  • Evaluation of evidence – writing an analysis
